The second assessment of the implementation of the EU Code of Conduct on hate speech revealed that social media platforms sped up the removal of hate speech notifications in the past six months, following their signing up last year to the voluntary code of conduct which required the platforms to “review the majority of valid notifications for removal of illegal hate speech in less than 24 hours." Overall, the reviewed companies now deal with 59.2% of notifications in less than 24 hours, more than double the December rate of 28.2%. While Facebook stepped up this rate from 50% to 58%, YouTube slowed down from 60.8% to 42.6%.
